My "Tai Chi Résumé"
I first started practicing Tai Chi in
1989, having taken a course by the Taoist Tai Chi Society at D'Youville
College. For years, I incorporated the movements, stretches, and principles
into my general martial arts practice, including passing them on to other
students. Over the years, I supplemented my physical study with book and other
research in Chi Kung, adding to methods and exercises I learned from various
sources. A sample of my writing on the subject can be found in the
July-September issues of Martial Talk Magazine. (Click

series as a PDF.)
Having given lectures and presentations
for the 8 Tigers Academy of Tai Chi and Chi Kung (Clarence, NY), they asked me
to fill in as instructor for one of their community education classes in 1999.
I then took upon learning much of their style of Tai Chi and taught their
system based on my own knowledge and experience.
For the following five years, I taught
over 400 students in school district community education programs throughout
the area, including Williamsville, Frontier (Blasdell/Hamburg), East Aurora,
Iroquois (Elma), Clarence Center, Cheektowaga, and West Seneca. I also
held similar classes over those years at the Pathways to Wellness (North
Collins), Sports Focus (physical therapy practice in Orchard Park) and Horizon
Martial Arts (West Seneca).
In 2006, I decided to take a break from
teaching and study a traditional style formally, namely the Yang Cheng-fu
system of Yang Style Tai Chi at
Red Dragon Martial Arts (McKinley Mall,
Blasdell, NY). However, I still periodically do seminars at retreats,
health fairs, Girl Scout conferences, and have been holding a class twice a
week at the VA day treatment facility (Main Street in Buffalo) since Autumn of
2006.
