Introduction to Tai Chi Kung
 | Description: This course will expose you to the
basic concepts and simpler practices of Tai Chi and Chinese energetics
("Chi Kung"), where the breath, or "Chi", is exercised
to harmonize the body and mind. Great for improving flexibility, mental and
physical relaxation, and general health. Open to participants of all ages
and physical conditions. Dress comfortably. |
 | Length: 4 - 6 weeks, 2 hours per week |
Tai Chi First Set
 | Preferred Prerequisite: Intro to Tai Chi Kung or any
previous Tai Chi experience. |
 | Description: he slow-moving, graceful movements of Tai Chi
taught in this course are designed to promote physical and mental well-being
and long life. This is the first "Short Form" taught in the 8
Tiger style of Tai Chi Chuan. Dress comfortably. |
 | Length: 4 - 6 weeks (6 weeks recommended), 2 hours per week |
 | Other: Medium to large space required; Usually taught
consecutively after Intro to Tai Chi Kung. |
Tai Chi Second Set
 | Preferred Prerequisite: Tai Chi First Set or
intermediate previous Tai Chi experience. |
 | Description: This is the second "Short
Form" taught in the 8 Tiger style of Tai Chi Chuan. Because of the
length of the form and its difficulty, only the first half is covered. Dress
comfortably. |
 | Length: 8 weeks, 2 hours per week |
 | Other: Medium to large space required |
Introduction to Tai Chi Basics
 | Description: This course is specially
designed as an orientation class for people who
are interested in learning what Tai Chi is about . The goal of this class
is provide the student with some knowledge and experience to help them
make informed choices when considering long term participation in Tai
Chi. Classes will include a combination of physical movement and
informative lecture, designed to enlighten the student about the many
different aspects Tai Chi has to offer. Topics will include samplings of:
 | Tai Chi style coordinated body movements, breathing |
 | Review of other Tai
Chi related practices, specific Tai Chi philosophy, various meditation
forms |
 | How to effectively use Tai Chi media materials |

 | Other: Students are advised to
wear sneakers, loose fitting clothing, and bring a
notebook. |
Tai Chi Set Basic Beginner Skills for Success
 | Preferred Prerequisite: Introduction to Tai Chi Basics or
permission of the instructor. |
 | Description: This class is for the students
who are interested in the study of the Tai
Chi Chuan set forms. The goal of this class is to provide the student
with the knowledge, information, and skills to success by teaching them
effective approaches to Tai Chi training -- What to
watch for, when and how
to learn a technique, study skills for home practice, and the typical
do’s and don'ts that can effect most beginners. Topics will
include
 | proper body orientation and alignment |
 | stances and foot placement |
 | weight shifting |
 | hand movements |
 | how to coordinate all the aspects into a
single movement with the breathing. |

 | Length: 4 weeks |
 | Other: Lessons are based on
previous lessons, and students should be advised that regular attendance
is vital and important. |
Passive Self-Defense (or "Tai Chi for Self-Defense")
 | Description: The peaceful approach to survival.
An insight into the psychology and practice of soft, yet effective
self-defense, you will control situations using simple, easy-to-learn
principles and techniques. Perfect for pacifists, women, seniors, and the
physically challenged. |
 | Length: 4 weeks, 2 hours per week / Special 2-Saturday
course (4 hrs. each) available |
 | Other: Medium to large space required; no special protection
or equipment needed. |
A Taste of Kung Fu
 | Description: A "Crash Course" in the
history, philosophy, and uses of the Eastern martial arts. Perfect for
people interested in knowing more but not necessarily training in martial
arts. A comparison of various cultures and styles is included, along with
the occasional demonstration of techniques. For student benefit, a test and
pre-test will be provided. |
